The Knights of the Round Table were spending one of their rare days off at the royal swimming pool—Kay lounging under a beach umbrella, Gawain devouring a generous serving of fried noodles, Lancelot preparing to take a dive from the springboard, and Gareth floating idly in her swim ring. At one point, they all noticed the absence of their king, only to spot her swimming gracefully a short distance away. When she reached their end of the pool, four hands stretched out in her direction, offering to help her get out of the water. And though it might have been a trick of the summer sun, the knights could swear that in that moment her face was brightened by a smile.
