The notability here is that the ¥2,000 banknote in Japan is much like the $2 banknote in the US. It's a regular issue banknote without any special value, but almost never actually circulated in real life, so they're seen as rare curiosities. Likewise, normal ATMs and cash registers have no place to put them.
