The "hey I got tired of fighting let's just make out instead" excuse got old really fast, and lacked any sort of realism. Aside from the cringe-inducing eye kiss-swapping scene, I'm pretty sure this is one of the most satisfying depictions of a romantic possibility between Kaguya and Mokou. In the sense of realizing that Mokou and Eirin will be the only people to follow her through eternity, and slowly developing love for Mokou as an equal, turning her feelings of hate towards her into this twisted mix of love and hate. Even if probably just one-sided, judging from Mokou's reactions.
I probably just stated the obvious, but I felt it was reasonable enough to put into words, and I would actually like to see further development into this. Is this "love" one of familiarity and/or a twisted enjoyment in seeing Mokou suffer, and must be believe the penalty game and kissing to be whims or war distractions, or is this twistedness a result of the love-hate conflict that looks to hide feelings of the traditional type of love? In the latter case, loving the one that hates you the most makes for a pretty dramatic setting in itself, but with immortality becoming a key issue, I would love to see how Kaguya would go about it.
I'm definitely looking too deep into this, but with complex emotions on the line, this is just how many questions a well-executed work can provoke.
