The way it was meant to be from the very beginning but got restricted due to social regulations. I mean think about it...right after marriage,(heck now a days, LOOONG before marriage) sex becomes a mandatory way to 'communicate' with teh so called 'significant other'. So why not during marriage wear something like this?

The marriage is a private thing for the couple. The ceremony is a public way of telling everyone else that they're a couple for life, and they're willing to go to great lengths to drive the message home.
Since the wedding (i.e. the ceremony) is intended to send a message, essentially, to society, clothing that society at large considers appropriate is necessary.
