Superman's/Supergirl's costumes are tougher than that. You'd have to at least drop a building on them to even rip a sleeve.

I heard there was some unconscious telepathic force field something or other used to explain why cars don't fall apart when Superman picks them up, and this was also presented as an explanation for the inconsistency with which his clothes get damaged.

Either that or they use indestructible Kryptonian fabrics.

Heard of it also. But isn’t that something more recent authors made up to fulfil the need of readers who are more demanding for logical explanations ?
It used to be he’s just very strong and invinsible except against plot device (kryptonite). He do it all with his manlyness and no question is asked ^^;;

As for the costume, later version had his costume made by his foster mother from his baby blanket (hold up against explosion, but easily cut and sewn by a normal person)
