I feel so very happy, I have no idea why

It's this art, this heart-warming moment, this artist and his ability to make cute little characters, and more specifically, one smiling Yorihime with one happy little young Reisen.

I was somewhat disappointed that this was more mainstream Touhou, rather than a flashback of Mamange...but only JUST disappointed. The sheer adorable of it all more than made up for it!

Amen. I wasn't even disappointed it was mainstream Touhou; Koyama-san's cute family material can rival Karaagetarou's and Gensou Koumuten's for real heartwarming appeal, regardless.

We don't know that this is NOT a Mamange prequel though do we?

Considering they didn't actually raise Reisen, yes, it is a prequel. My only problem with putting it in the pool was she isn't Mamange here. All things considered though I don't think that matters.

I don't really get why the word "mainstream" is being used here either... Touhou being cute is pretty mainstream.

Reisen (Udonge) is canonically former Toyohime's pet, she probably *did* raise her to some extent, just as she does with Reisen II. Udonge only came to earth after she defected from the LDF, and considering the fact the rabbits Yorihime trains are much younger in appearance than today's Reisen, it's been quite a while since she entered active service (or perhaps the more experienced rabbits fight on the frontlines). This miniseries is actually perfectly plausible canon wise or as a prequel to Mamange. It doesn't really imply that Reisen is Yorihime's daughter, quite the opposite. I don't see your point here.

Yes, Reisen served under the Watatsukis, just as she does Eirin now. And you're right, its just like with Reisen II... who currently serves under the Watatsukis. Also the other rabbits don't actually seem explicitly younger than Reisen, actually. I mean, since when do Touhou characters really show their age, anyway?

Its pretty obviously a prequel if you consider who is actually drawing and writing the series. It's pretty hard to deny the similarities in the theme, direct family relation implications or not. Furthermore, it makes less sense to create a completely separate series about the canonical events of how the Watatsukis cared for a very young reisen admist his other current work which is so similar.

It's possible, I suppose, but still highly unlikely.

Gensou Koumuten, Karaagetarou, and Koyama Shigeru are probably the top 3 artists I am constantly, eagerly waiting to see more from. My eyes have welled up with tears to some extent from sheer heartwarmingness to all three at some point. May God bless them for all their hard work to bring happiness to people's hearts.
