Once the applause has died down and the audience has left the theater, the empress takes off her crown and lets her mask slip. Before her rise to power, Napoleon lethargically drifted through life, all her attention focused on not letting herself be overwhelmed with the excess of information in her head. Until one day, she realized she was essentially just waiting for herself to finally snap, and decided she wasn't going to let that happen. And so, she found herself a role to play, one that could give her restless mind a different purpose—the virtuous ruler her fellow countrymen had sought.
