I tried in the past to fend off hunger with water.

It did not work.

It only seems to work for a very short period of time which leads to either eating (if you have food) or drinking lots of water (if you have little/tightly rationed food).

Using water as a food substitute isn't very healthy though so after about a week with tight rations you start sleeping longer and feeling lightheaded. Either way don't worry Sanae, Reimu is probably just resting.
