    Strike witches 1991 #12

Let me try to make some notes about the setting of Strike Witches 1991 and such. The real Gulf War took place in and around Iraq, but in the Strike Witches world, almost all of that is ocean. I can't claim to have a complete grasp on the setting of the original work, so I'll do my best to proceed based on how I imagine things must be. ◆ The wealthy oil-producing United Kingdom of Jazira governs most of the Arabian Peninsula, which is the theater for the Gulf Neuroi War. Isolated from the rest of the world, the Allied Arabian Armed Forces (also known as the Royal Jazira Army) defended their country, which was favored and attacked by the Neuroi, eventually joining forces with a multinational coalition to repel their attack. This is based on real-world Saudi Arabia. However, a number of the weapons deployed were of Orussian make. ◆ Samira bint Ibrahim al Jazira, age 17. She's a princess of the Kingdom of Jazira. However, she also has the skills of a witch, and when the capital of Riyadh was attacked, she took to the skies in her own MiG-21 to defend it. Barely escaping with her life, she joined up with a Britannian air force unit, part of a multinational force in the Mediterranean Sea, and over objections received an F-15D, fighting on the front lines until the end of the war.

An interesting thing that I like about the SW universe is that they're no religions quite possibly because Witches exist but aren't hated. Having Muslim relatives and being from Islamic country I can tell you...my Muslim friends would approve :3

I think, most logically, the presence and continuing threat of the Neuroi would've served as that higher catalyst to unite the people of the world. It isn't one group of people or nation against another nowadays, but a completely alien enemy, with unsuccessful attempts at negotiation, destroying whole tracts of land and forcing what, in our time line, bitter enemies, into partners.

    I spy a downed F-16 and a witch in a F-15 striker.

Actually the interesting thing is that in strike witches: Religion, under the surface; deos seem to in fact exist. But their is a catch; these religions are pretty much our worlds religions but are different in that they much less militant and dogmatic and probably less concerned about "piety".... but more importantly; they are seemingly in fact pro-witch. The Abrahamic religions seem implied to exist along side Hinduism, Shintoism, Buddhism, possibly Zoroastrianism and their is seeming possibility that various pagan (including Greece-roman Hellenistic Olympianism, various animism (probably in Africa and Native Tribes) and other religions may likely exist equal to the Abrahamic religions to some extent due to the flags of the nations, nation border lines and the presence of a few instances of the occasional religious building, but with less over religious iconography.

The presence of the Neruoi would likely mean that said religions are likely more laid back towards their fellow man and less worried about trivial details but may be to some degree anti-neuroi.

The world however is still utterly fascinating and these details, while not focused or of focus, are still interesting details of world building. Much in such the same capacity in how other examples of world building are fascinating: like how Karsland is actually WW1 German Empire transplanted into the 1940's; and not in fact: WW2 Nazi Germany like quite a few people erroneously presume.
