Thinking about it, Remilia may just be pissed at her for getting so weak. She IS a vampire, and fanon aside, she HAS to be quite prideful. To see the one human who successfully matched her in combat fall so short now...well...All I can think of is maybe Remilia thinks death would be more honorable then weakening. Rivalry stuffs.

Certain small hints, however, suggest that either (A) Reimu just had a wardrobe change prior to EoSD, or (B) pre-Windows era stuff doesn't exist, and modern official stuff only gives the occasional nod to its roots.

Yes, but it happening in the far future due to old age is probably acceptable. Getting weak while young, and getting married, and getting pregnant... odds are she views that differently.

ZUN's specifically said PC-98 Reimu is Windows Reimu. That, and EoSD says that it happens not long after MS

It has been implied by the story (and explained on the comments), that the big guy is there just for the show. Yukari does all the incident solving work.
