Incorrect, according to Bridget's backstory.
Apparently, in the town Bridget came from, they see the birth of twins as a terrible omen. His parents didn't want to kill either of them, so they dressed Bridget the same as his twin sister, taught him to act like a girl at all times, and made sure the two were never seen together. This way, people would think there was only one child, a female.

You've got it semi backwards.
IDENTICAL twins where a bad omen, so they raised Bridget as a girl so that they wouldn't be "identical."

Everyone was tenacious to not believe the fact that bridget was a boy, in fact, everyone assumed when playing the game he was a girl and only played cause they like him for his appeal. Then 4chan got popular and everyone started posting random bridget pictures from various japanese art sites that ALSO didn't know he was a boy, And they all digitally circle jerked with each other.
Only some people including myself been knew bridget was guy, cause it was simple, his sex symbol was on his nun hat it was metallic, the problem with this is similar to the haku from naruto, no one believed haku was a boy until he said so himself to naruto, just like bridget having no anime couldn't be proved he was a boy until either the artist or the fans knew he was a boy and the rest got crushed still believe he's still a girl, some still do. Some drawn japanese fanart didn't have the symbol on his nun hat thinking small details don't count.
