Yeah lol, did it suddenly become a taboo thing overnight to mention VTubers' reincarnated persona or something?

No it's not? I can see it being frowned upon when one is asking or talking about someone's past Vtuber persona to said vtubers themselves, whether it's on their chat, Twitter or wherever else.

But not when it's a harmless comment like what the commenter above posted. He wasn't even being insulting or anything. I genuinely don't see how it warrants that many downvotes.

The PL taboo has been dead for ages. The whole Selen/Dokibird debacle was the final nail in the coffin. The downvoters are those who can't get with the times.

Time doesn't matter. The excuses of voyeurs like you doesn't matter. Talking about someone's past that they never disclosed to you behind their back is a violation of privacy. It is as wrong today as it was 5 years ago, and as it will be 500 years from now.

Well, to be fair, I downvoted my comment myself too to try to make it a double spoiler after a third downvote or so, lol, I don't really mind it. Plus, I kinda can see this as a "funny" (in quotes) comment.
too long, don't read further if you don't want to see my whole reasoning

Anyway, I specifically made a spoiler in my comment and make it look pretty obvious what's under it to avoid unwanted doxxing. I quite understand why people could be mad at it, because as soon as I woke up this morning Youtube's algorithm decided "DID YOU SEE THAT INACTIVE ACCOUNT'S VIDEOS?! OH, AND BY THE WAY, MUMEI JUST ANNOUNCED HER GRADUATION. I'M NOT TRYING TO TELL YOU ANYTHING :^)" and it did that to me at least 7 times in the past already. This doesn't work for everyone and all the time, but that sure is a trend.

But at the same time... I don't think it's really bad to talk about it, especially considering that some people mistreat vtuber graduations as something heavily tragic and sorrow to consider things like "I don't want to watch vtubers anymore" and "I don't know if I'll be able to be happy again this year" (real quotes from Youtube comments). Honestly, I don’t want such person to actually drop everything and fall into depression while literally in the next month a new VTuber (with a familiar voice) could appear, whom the person would simply ignore because "I don't watch vtubers anymore".

Not to mention that it will inevitably take some fans too long to figure out who is who because when vtubers graduate or going corpo they usually don't say out loud "I'M NOW THE OTHER VTUBER/FLESHTUBER/STREAMER"... except TokyoMewMewGirl2002.

No, it's always been taboo. It only became less so because of Dokibird's controversial termination caused by Niji's incompetence.

How is it violation of privacy? If we're discussing their real name or personal info that they themselves never made public, sure, it would be, but this is between 2 identities they have made public, no different than voice actor connection. If it was some place like their own chat or comment section or an official Reddit where clear rules are set against it, that's one thing, but last I remember this place doesn't have such rules.

And you really think the person behind the Vtubers don't want us to discuss their alts? You really think Kson would have 1.29M, Doki at 825K, Dooby at 418K or Nimi at 570K right now if fans strictly are never allowed to talk about their different identities?

It's a professional courtesy. Actors like having their roles appreciated, but not in the middle of their current one. There's also the possibility of legal troubles if they used a former role involving a character they technically don't own to generate clot for one that they do. Although I think there's alot of leeway for making such references, there's an unspoken line concerning directness and frequency.

Doki probably consulted a lawyer when making herself legally distinct from Selene.

I agree if it's meant for the professionalism, for the sake of maintaining immersion in portraying a character, and it would obviously be extremely unprofessional if they themselves come out "Oh I used to be XYZ from this agency! Sub to me now!".

That said, there is a time and place, and fans ARE NOT the talents, bound by any professionalism nor contracts. All of these talents KNOW most of their fans know who they used to be, but they also refer to their past lives in metaphors to maintain that immersion. Yes you're still supposed to be courteous and not bring it up right in their face, since that's part of helping them maintain the professional immersion of playing a character, and it's rude to compare if you like their previous persona more or less than their current one, but not being allowed to acknowledge it even in private spaces among fans is ridiculous, especially if you're using such flimsy excuse as "violation of privacy".

In dubt apply Kayfave and your favorite wrestler Dr Infernicus is a demon that cames from hell and not from Flint Michigan, and don't bother him for his previous life as Taquito Jr. Same here, if V-Tuber want a clear cut for past lifes, V-Tuber gets a clear cut, isn't rocket science.

Professionalism has nothing to do with this, it is a matter of basic empathy and decency. ALL people, regardless of status or fame, have a right to privacy. And all who want their privacy to be respected are obliged to extend that same respect to others. Privacy for me AND for thee. If, like the majority of humanity, you find the idea of complete strangers digging into your past for no good reason and tracking your movements disturbing, you are obliged to avoid doing that. Now, if you're touched enough in the head to see nothing wrong with being the protagonist of a Truman Show, then I suppose there's nothing that can stop you from treating others likewise. Just don't try to feign offence when the 90% of humanity that thinks otherwise calls you a creep for it.

Do white knights like you even know why talking about their pasts has been taboo for so long?

It's because when vtubing first started to get big, most of the talents didn't have a previous persona, or in some cases didn't even have a history of entertainment, meaning that if you dug into their past you were first and foremost going to find real identities and not "this stinky shark used to be a drunk cowboy". When certain clippers became hated by the community for making videos about vtuber pasts, it was because they were essentially legitimately doxxing people.

That's not really happening in this case, however. Talking about a graduated vtubers new indie persona is not doxxing, it is not an invasion of privacy, and 99% of them want you to know that's who they are, because they want their fans to know where to find them. Indies don't talk about their previous personas, besides allusions here and there, because of professionalism, corpos don't mention past personas because they're literally under contract not to, and fans don't bring it up explicitly when interacting with either of them out of respect.

None of those things apply in this space. No one is being hurt by pointing out where one can find a now "reincarnated" vtuber.

I'm sorry but this reeks of a combination of "people on the internet doesn't understand nuances" and "when in doubt, argue that the other person doesn't understand empathy, basic decency, or logic because strawmanning is the only argument you have".

No one's arguing against the importance of privacy, I'm arguing that knowing Nimi Nightmare and Ceres Fauna being the same person is not a breach of privacy because they are both public figures. I still do not know her real name, her real face, her real address, and I do not care to find out.
What you're arguing is like saying knowing Chris Pratt playing Mario and Star Lord is a breach of his personal privacy, especially because unlike Fauna/Nimi, we KNOW his real face and name.
Breach of privacy implies that the knowledge ought not to be known by the public, and that by knowing, the knowledge can bring harm. If knowing that Kson and Coco is the same person itself is a risk factor, care to explain why she still feels safe enough to stream with her real face revealed to her millions of fans?
Why would Vtubers still allude to their past lives all the time if not for the fact they KNOW it's an open secret?

Hell, if you think merely knowing is such a risk, why are you apparently okay with the hundreds of other images on this site that multiple Vtubers that are played by the same person?

Comrade Police Lieutenant that currently watching my internet traffic can't disagree with this statement. But even if I don't really believe in privacy (personal reasons), I think in such cases it should work more like copyright where the copyright owner must make a claim, like using the right to be forgotten, and not in a way when some other people think something is a violation of privacy because someone used the deduction on public information and suddenly it's bad. People and information can be wrong about things. True story, I was banned from one group because local admins thought that my account was a second account of my ex-girlfriend.

Those people who value their privacy usually try to clean out literally everything about themselves, and never leave such huge loopholes as accounts with millions of subscribers and doxx comments inside them. Moreover, if girls really care about privacy, nothing stops them from making completely new accounts from scratch and harshly banning people for literally anything wrong. Some do just that or something similar. I can respect it, actually I do respect it because it is a solid position. If I don't see any solid position... spoiler is more than enough for those open secrets.
