It's not a novel series. They're just character drawings with a bit of back story that Fumikane releases on Twitter. Some of them get short stories to go along with them eventually. Don't know if they will fit into the future of the Strike Witches franchise or just remain a sort of expanded universe thing.

Well it's now a light novel series that's now syndicated currently with 7 volumes and counting and those light novels are getting a manga adaptation to boot.
