They have forgotten about them (or at least, Nazis have passed into "myth and legend", as they are far more popular as fictional elements), but that sadly hasn't kept Neo-Nazis from trying to kill people.

Just a couple years ago, Washington State had some plant a bomb at an MLK day march, and they're very active in the region, for starters.

Well, now that you think about that, it's true that you can classify Nazis as legends. I remember watching a Disney movie called "Education for Death", about how are nazis borned. It was chilling and really hard to believe.
And the fact that Germany refused to reprint Mein Kampf means that, even now, 60 years later, people are still scared of Adolf "Moustachio" Hitler.
