I've eaten stuff from a Buddhist temple before. It's largely seasoned with sugar, salt, and spices. It's good stuff.

I am not so sure... I just know that there is no meat.

The pouch is most likely the mochi kinchaku used in oden. Some versions of it really look just like what Kou draws here.
