chemise

A loose-fitting top with thin spaghetti straps, usually ending past the waist, typically worn as sleepwear or lingerie.

A chemise typically does not have any buttons or other fasteners and is put on by either dropping it over the head or stepping into it and lifting it up. Its usually on the plainer side, being worn under clothes to smoothe the silhouette.

A chemise is similar to a babydoll, which is also a short, loose-fitting, sleeveless garment. Typically, though, babydolls have a front slit, may flare at the hips, and may have an empire waist, which chemises do not.
