five-colored flag

五色旗

The Five-colored flag refers to the "Five Races Under One Union" flag, the official flag of the Republic of China from 1912 until 1928. It consists of horizontal red, yellow, blue, white and black stripes, which represent that Han Chinese, Manchus, Mongols, Hui (Chinese Muslims) and Tibetans, considered at the time to be the primary ethnic groups of China.

The Manchukuo flag is a variant of this flag in which the red, blue, white and black stripes are the upper left quarter of the flag, while the rest is a yellow field. In this version the meaning of the black stripe is changed to represent Koreans.
