A form of ramen sold in a dry, precooked block, the most common form of "instant noodles". Invented in Japan in 1958 by Nissin, it has since spread to other countries, examples include America's "Top Ramen" and Britain's "Super Noodles".

The instant noodle block is generally sold in two sorts of packaging, pack noodles (generally in square packs, sometimes sold in bulk) or cup ramen (generally sold in a cup- or bowl-shaped container).
