kitasato shibasaburou
A real life bacteriologist (1853-1931), credited as the co-discoverer of the plague bacteria with the French doctor Alexandre Yersin, and a partner of Fukuzawa Yukichi in infectious diseases research. He appears on the 1000 yen banknote since 2024 (replacing fellow doctor Noguchi Hideyo).
Worth noting is that Kitazato signed his name "Kitasato" using "sa," which is pronounced "za" in German, in order to be called "Kitazato" in Germany, where he was studying. That signature was read as "きたさと" in English-speaking countries.
