mapo tofu

麻婆豆腐

A spicy Szechuan (Sichuan) dish with tofu in a red chili and bean sauce.

The original Chinese mapo doufu is characterized by its mala sauce. The Japanese version, popularized by the Japanese chef Chen Kenmin, lacks Sichuan pepper flavor.

Brought to light by Kotomine Kirei's "Extra Spicy Mapo Tofu" featured in Fate/Stay Night and later featured as Craft Essence in Fate/Grand Order, as well as a seemingly inconsequential reference in episode 5 of Angel Beats! involving Tachibana Kanade.
