smith & wesson m1917

The Smith & Wesson version of the M1917 revolver, manufactured to supplement the M1911 in the United States Military during World War I. It is a six-shot, double-action revolver designed to fire .45 ACP, and later, .45 Auto Rim cartridges.

Though both are designated M1917, the Colt and Smith & Wesson versions have subtle differences, such as the Colt requiring moon clips due to its lack of a shoulder in the cylinder for the cartridges to headspace on. The Smith & Wesson version does have this shoulder, so moon clips aren't required, though an extraction rod is required to remove the spent shell casings if moon clips are not utilized.
