    snowspeeder

A fictional starfighter and combat aircraft from the Star Wars franchise.

The Incom Corporation T-47 Airspeeder, known mostly as the Snowspeeder, was a very small, highly maneuverable and fast multirole aerospace unit that became famous during the Galactic Civil War for its use by the Rebel Alliance as a reconnaissance and aerial assault military fighter.

The T-47 is armed with dual laser cannons and a rear light repeater blaster for defense. It is also equipped with a rear harpoon launcher and a tow cable for recovering cargo.

The Snowspeeder became famous during the battle of Hoth, when a fleet of speeders confronted a powerful attack force of several Galactic Empire AT-AT walkers.

In addition to cold environments, T-47s were modified by Alliance forces for use in several different climates. The Swampspeeder version included flotation gear and water-tight seals. The Sandspeeder was equipped with advanced filters to keep out sand, engine cooling units, and long-range radar for navigating sandstorms. The Skyspeeder had a pressurized cockpit and more powerful repulsorlifts for higher altitudes.

It was designed by Ralph McQuarrie and Joe Johnston in the early 80s.
