tank turret

A type of turret designed to be mounted on a ground military vehicle, often but not exclusively a tank.

Tank turrets are generally compact and low profile, smaller than naval turrets, typically seating one to three crew members. The single main gun or cannon is usually centrally-mounted and of small or medium-caliber, often 20-125mm. May also feature additional coaxial or top-mounted armament, mostly machine guns but occasionally smaller cannons. Tank turrets are usually fully enclosed and designed to withstand hits from anti-tank cannons and/or missiles, but can be lightly armored, open topped, or open on one or more sides. Often features a cupola, other observation devices, and hatches.

This tag can be applied when only the turret is present or visible, without the rest of the vehicle, and/or when a mecha, personification, or other character wears or uses a tank turret as a weapon.

Do not use this tag for posts only featuring a cupola or hatch, only use if the turret structure is visible.

Examples

Typical modern turret with characters sitting in cupolas and hatches, and a top-mounted machine gun.
Though not very low profile, this is still a tank turret.
This post contains a turret and hatches, but not the whole tank.
Similarly, turrets used or worn by personifications count.
